Judy Berlfein
Judy Berlfein grew up in Los Angeles and attended an elementary school on Mulholland Drive, where she had a perfect view of the smog-covered valley — inspiration for future work healing our planet. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College and a master's degree from UC San Diego in physiology and pharmacology, she spent a decade as a freelance science and environmental journalist publishing pieces in the Los Angeles Times, Discover magazine, KPBS, NPR, as well as other small publications. She also worked as a medical writer in biotech, obtaining the U.S. Food and Drug istration approval for cancer treatments and treatments to other diseases. She retired just before the pandemic, and since then commits much of her time to unpaid work advocating for safe cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and for smart climate policy. She is a 36 year resident of Encinitas where she lives with her husband. She has two grown children.
