The 64-team NCAA baseball championships have been narrowed to 16 Super Regional teams.

There were 39 players from San Diego who made the postseason. Just two are still playing – and both are at UCLA.

Mission Hills High School grad Cody Delvecchio has made seven starts, posting a 1-3 record with 36 strikeouts in 33 innings heading into this weekend’s series against UTSA. Finn McIlroy, a multi-sport standout at Carlsbad High School, is redshirting this season.

Elsewhere:

• Outfielder Kien Vu (Point Loma) hit .359 with 10 homers, 14 doubles, 21 steals and 34 RBIs for Arizona State. He figures to get drafted in July.

• Right-hander Gavin Perry (Rock Academy) appeared in 16 games for Western Kentucky, going 4-1 with a 2.64 ERA.

• Freshman Will Sanford (Point Loma) was 2-2 at Oregon. He struck out 39 in 38 innings.

• Ryan Fenn (Granite Hills) was the Big West Tournament MVP for Cal Poly. A senior infielder, Fenn hit .368 with a pair of homers and 39 RBIs and led the team with 19 doubles and 15 steals. Infielder Zach Daubet (Clairemont) led Cal Poly with a .371 average and had seven homers, 15 doubles and 24 RBIs. Lefty Caden Pearlman (La Costa Cnayon) made five appearances and was 1-0. Right-hander Vaughn Major (Christian) redshirted after transferring from UC Santa Barbara.

• Brendon Miller (Torrey Pines) appeared in 17 games as a pitcher for Fairfield, going 1-1.

• Right-hander Victor Arreola (Madison) made two starts for Fresno State. Right-handers Wyatt Thornbury (Carlsbad) and Ismael Castanon (Bonita Vista) redshirted.

• Infielders James Castagnola (Cathedral Catholic) and Frankie Carney (St. Augustine) made contributions at UC Irvine. Castagnola hit .269 with four homers and 28 RBIs. Carney hit .331 with 22 RBIs. Infielder Theo Kim (Rancho Bernardo) played in 14 games. Catcher Michael Podstreleny (Cathedral Catholic) and infielder Ryan Ham (Scripps Ranch) were redshirts.

• Infielder Addison Klepsch (Del Norte) played in nine games for Auburn. Right-hander Connor McBride (Rancho Bernardo) redshirted.

• Catcher Van Coughlin (La Jolla Country Day) started five games for Holy Cross.

• Infielder Camden Sos (Granite Hills) played in seven games for TCU.

• Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek (Torrey Pines), a transfer from UCLA, hit .294 with eight homers and 41 RBIs for USC. Kevin Takeuchi (Rancho Bernardo) hit .241 with a homer and 19 RBIs. Zach Swartzberg (La Jolla Country Day) played in seven games, while Anthony Perritano played in two. Will Stickney (Carlsbad) and Matthew Pries (La Jolla Country Day) redshirted.

From San Diego to Saint Mary’s

Saint Mary’s made the postseason with 10 San Diego-area players on the roster.

Left-hander Dylan Delvecchio (Mission Hills), a transfer from Tarelton, was the No. 1 pitcher, finishing 6-4 with a 4.85 ERA. In 17 appearances, he had 71 strikeouts in 65 innings. Sean Cannon (Coronado) was 4-0 with a 3.57 ERA in 12 games. Talin Gardini (Patrick Henry) was 3-1 while pitching in 22 games. Noah Waldeck (Tri-City Christian) was 1-1 in 27 appearances. Connor Kinney (La Costa Canyon) redshirted.

Infielder Grady Petit (La Costa Canyon) hit .396 with a homer and 10 RBIs. Catcher Brett Williams (San Marcos) hit .359 with nine RBIs in 16 games. Utilityman Chris Esquivel (La Jolla Country Day) played in 14 games, catcher Blake Conrad (San Marcos) played in five games and outfielder Justin Heffler (St. Augustine) hit .214 with five RBIs.

More baseball

• Left-hander Tyler Bremner (Scripps Ranch) was 5-4 with a 3.49 ERA at UC Santa Barbara. He made 14 starts, pitching 77 1/3 innings with 19 walks and 111 strikeouts. He figures to be a high draft pick in July.

• Right-hander Cooper Walls (La Costa Canyon) was 3-3 with a 3.73 ERA in 15 appearances at Hawaii. He was the Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year and has entered the transfer portal.

• Jake Bold (La Jolla Country Day) led Princeton, hitting .260 with eight homers, 27 RBIs and 39 walks.

• Catcher Johnny Luetzow (La Jolla Country Day) hit .281 with a pair of homers and 23 RBIs in 44 games at Santa Clara.

• Mark Prince (La Costa Canyon) hit .287 at Luther College in Iowa. He had a school-record 11 homers and 45 RBIs, 14 doubles and led the team with 45 runs scored. Gavin Scurr (University City) hit .284 with six homers and 26 RBIs. Ryan Truman (Ramona) hit .295 with a homer and 12 RBIs.

Softball

Three teams with local players made it to the Women’s College World Series. All three have been eliminated.

• Oklahoma’s Cydney Sanders (San Marcos) was 3-for-8 in four games with three walks. She had a pair of homers in a win over Oregon. She finished her college career with 58 home runs, 13 of those this season.

• UCLA won its first game, then lost two. Sofia Mujica (Granite Hills) was 2-for-8 with a homer in three games. Senica Curo (Ramona) had a sacrifice in the one game she played.

• Oregon went 1-2 and was knocked out. Dezianna Patmon (Patrick Henry) was 4-for-9 with a homer against Oklahoma and three RBIs. Alyanna Shaw (Mater Dei Catholic) played in all three games and was 0-for-2. Freshman Stefini Ma’ake (Our Lady of Peace) was hitless in nine at-bats. Pitcher Staci Chambers (Granite Hills) faced one batter in a game against Ole Miss.

Track & field

• Lexi Evans (Scripps Ranch) of Cal Poly won back-to-back women’s pole vault championships, clearing a Big West Conference-record 15 feet, 5 1/4 inches at the NCAA West Prelims. She qualified for the NCAA Championships and finished 14th overall.

• Vincent Atilano (Cathedral Catholic) ran a 51.86 in the 400 hurdles and anchored the 4×440 Cal Poly relay team that ran 3:06.72.

• Micah Sanchez (Liberty Charter) ran an 8:36.78 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Cal Poly.

In the pros

• Alfonso Rivas (La Jolla Country Day) is playing professional baseball in Mexico with Algodonero de Union Laguna. Rivas, who played collegiately at Arizona, has played in the major leagues with the Cubs, Padres, Pirates and Cardinals.

• Wynton Bernard (Rancho Bernardo) is playing in Mexico for Leones de Yucatan. He played in the major leagues for the Rockies.
