Re “Paid parking plans start date questioned amid budget woes” (May 21): There are about 400 volunteers under the leadership of Forever Balboa Park. Also, there are many more volunteers at the museums, Old Globe and Organ Pavilion. I have been volunteering at the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden for 16 years.

If paid parking is implemented at Balboa Park, I will be one of many calling it quits. The public will pay for parking and the city will have to replace volunteers with paid staff. It would be another bad economic decision by the city to choose paid parking over volunteers.

Let’s keep Balboa Park as the crown jewel for everyone to enjoy.
