Re “Fatal crash raises questions about proximity of airports to homes and businesses” (May 25): As San Diego residents we are entitled to careful, thoughtful comments about our community resources. Sadly, that is not what we received from former City Manager Jack McGrory, who used the tragic crash into Tierrasanta as an opportunity to pursue his long-held bias against Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. It is a productive resource and nationally recognized asset that the community is legitimately proud of. McGrory referred to “amateurs” and “rookie pilots.” The Tierrasanta crash involved neither amateurs nor rookies. The pilot was an FAA-certificated jet pilot with an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. It is sad to see such careless comments from someone who has held such responsibility in the city of San Diego.
