Re “San Diego’s new ambulance model is raking in millions. But the city still wants to change gears.” (May 19): One more “San Diego Special,” coming right up. Our elected leaders want to mess with an arrangement that is generating profits for the city government. Past experience has shown that Mayor Gloria can’t manage his way out of a wet paper bag. This is one more budget black hole to add to the list.

Three thoughts on who controls San Diego: 1. Despite the well-publicized budget problems facing San Diego, I haven’t heard of any union losing their jobs. Why not? Instead, Mayor Gloria is cutting library and park hours. 2. What is really driving the new trash collection fees and greater frequency of recycling pick-ups? More union jobs. 3. Despite over $17 million in profit from the current outsourced ambulance contract, Mayor Gloria wants to bring some ambulance services back in-house — guess what that will do? Create more union jobs and further increase future pension costs for the city that are already out of control.
Shame on all media sources for not focusing on what is really going on — labor unions have complete control of our city, including Mayor Gloria. It will only stop when voters wake up and smell the labor union handlers of our elected officials.
