
of the Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club gathered recently to send off six outstanding AVID students from San Dieguito Academy who were selected to attend the 2025 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) weekend. The send-off marked an important milestone for these exceptional juniors, each recognized for their leadership, service, and commitment to making a positive impact in their communities, according to a news release.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, held April 25–27, is an annual event developed by Rotary International and specially tailored by Rotary District 5340 to serve students in San Diego and Imperial Counties. RYLA is more than just a camp — it’s a life-changing experience that nurtures servant leadership by rewarding students who have demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities, the news release stated.
Hosted by a volunteer committee of Rotarians and past RYLArians, the all-expenses-paid weekend includes inspiring keynote speakers, collaborative fellowship activities, and deep discussions on ethical and social issues — all within an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Students are encouraged to explore new ideas, build life-long friendships, and strengthen their leadership skills, preparing them to return to their schools and communities energized to lead and serve at even higher levels.
“We are incredibly proud of our six San Dieguito Academy students who have earned this honor,” said Marti Rosenberg, Youth Service chairwoman of the Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club, in the news release. “Their dedication to service and leadership embodies the spirit of Rotary, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things they will accomplish in the future.”
