Montessori education takes full advantage of the wonders of early childhood, immersing students in a world prepared just for them and the unique learning abilities of their young age.
Located in Poway and serving San Diego County, Country Montessori School provides an immersive education that nurtures independence, curiosity, and a solid academic foundation. One of the benefits of the Montessori method is how each year builds on what students have learned the previous year.
The early childhood curriculum introduces sequential activities/concepts to the child by year. These ideas, in the areas of Practical Life Skills, Sensorial Development, Math, Art, Language, and Cultural Studies, are repeated and expanded throughout a three-year cycle. The concepts are reinforced even as new ones are introduced. Each child moves through the curriculum in their own individual way, following their own inner guide and developmental time table.
The third year, kindergarten, is the capstone year in Montessori education. Physical Education, Music, Spanish, and Art Language and Math to continue the well-rounded development of the student.
Kindergarten students also work with an elementary literacy specialist, enhancing reading and comprehension skills and ing a smooth transition to higher-level learning. This balanced approach nurtures lifelong learners ready for the academic and social demands of elementary school.
But another advantage of the Montessori kindergarten year is that students get the chance to be leaders in their multi-age classroom and model behavior for their younger peers, especially as kindergarteners start to tackle more academic subjects.
In our Lower Elementary program, including First, Second, and Third grades, the complexity of the material continues to build. When these 6- to 9-year-old students transition into new age groups, teachers meet and discuss each child’s social, emotional, and academic needs. Many children ages 9 to twelve continue with the Montessori method into Upper Elementary.
Features like the kindergarten capstone year are just one of the many advantages of Montessori education, helping children build and solidify their foundational skills and encouraging a love of learning.
