“Federal judge sides with Trump in allowing immigration enforcement in houses of worship” (April 11): Reevaluating strategies that protect immigrants shouldn’t take a judge opening churches for Immigration & Customs Enforcement arrests. Immigrant ers claim the moral high ground as “humanitarian.” They decry the fear that undocumented immigrants experience as unfair, robbing them of their rights.

Let’s agree they fear negative consequences, including deportation. We can also agree those laws are not likely to change; amnesty is similarly unlikely.

Are those immigrant rights advocates morally justified encouraging and enabling migrants to remain here, defying enforcement of federal laws? Even if you disagree with those laws, where’s the morality in helping them to remain? That makes for a logical disconnect, and palpable hypocrisy.

When might these legislators, pastors and other deluded moral authorities recognize that the best path to stop living with that fear is to self-deport while getting in line for proper credentials?
