The Clean Energy Alliance enrolled approximately 1,800 Net Energy Metering customers over the last year, the agency announced during its March 27 meeting.

Net Energy Metering is a process that allows customers to lower their bills by using their own energy, such as energy acquired through solar s, to sell back to the grid.

Clean Energy Alliance CEO Greg Wade also gave an update on enrollment statistics, including stats for the two newest member cities of Oceanside and Vista, which both ed last year. Since launching with founding cities Del Mar, Solana Beach and Carlsbad, then adding Escondido and San Marcos, the agency now covers seven cities.

As of the end of February, Oceanside has a 94% participation rate and Vista has a 95% participation rate.

The default plan that customers are entered into is Clean Impact Plus, which includes a minimum 50% renewable energy and 75% carbon free. Out of the 73,950 eligible customers in Oceanside, 219 opted down to the Clean Impact Plan, which has a minimum of 50% renewable energy, and 98 opted up to the 100% renewable energy plan. There were also 4,822 customers who opted out of CEA service.

Out of 39,499 customers in Vista, 94 opted down to 50% renewable and 317 opted up to 100% renewable, as well as 1,990 who opted out of CEA service.

Across all seven CEA member cities, more than 250,000 customers are enrolled in the default Clean Impact Plus plan, in addition to 711 in the 50% Clean Impact plan and 982 in the Green Impact 100% renewable.
