St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will open more than 30 parking spots to Del Mar’s downtown visitors at its 15th Street and Maiden Lane lot, the city announced.

The spaces are an addition to an existing partnership between the parish and the city in which the city manages and enforces parking meters on public parking spaces on the parish’s property, with revenue split half and half. The spaces are available for Del Mar visitors if they are not in use for church services or other events.

The city and church also had a 2010 agreement to split revenue from 21 parking spots owned by the parish on Maiden Lane.

The city has received approximately $50,000 per year in gross revenue from the partnership, according to a city staff report. The net revenue of about $22,000 to the city

According to the city staff report from September, “It is also worth noting that 100% of any increase in citation revenue realized from expanding the number of paid public parking spaces included in the License Agreement would remain with the City.”

“The newly-opened spaces in the main lot brings the total to 53 spaces and adds much-needed public parking to Del Mar’s busy downtown village,” according to a post on the city’s website.
