Kudos on textbook review
Regarding stories about Ramona Unified School District reviewing current history/social science books I want to applaud the school board for reviewing the current history/social science books that had been “approved” by teachers.
In the Nov. 3 edition of the Sentinel, it states that Trustee Maya Phillips took a deep dive into a book in question and found troubling issues with materials that our “teachers” approved. The fact that a textbook did not include the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence is alarming. How can this happen?
Not to mention, the exemption of such important topics would be in violation of California Education Code 60043.
Our school board is doing exactly what we the people have asked them to do and are simply following California Education Code 60045, which mandates that all instruction materials adopted by the board shall be, to the satisfaction of the board, accurate, objective, and current.
Bravo!
